SQL (Structured Query Language) is used to communicate with the database. SQL is used to perform tasks such as updating or retrieving data in a database. Common database management systems using SQL - Oracle, Sybase, Microsoft SQL Server, Access, Ingres, etc. While most database systems use SQL, most also have their own add-ons that are usually only used on their system.
