My name is Michael, I am a former engineering team leader at Netflix, now an engineering consultant and a graduate of the Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences (EECS) department at the University of California, Berkeley. When I left Netflix, I thought the only way to make money was either to get a W-2 job again or to create a startup with venture capital scale. But soon I discovered a community of engineers looking for a middle ground between these two extremes. These engineer-influencers realized that becoming a successful entrepreneur is easier if you first build your audience. When I started my entrepreneurial journey in February 2022, I had 0 followers, 0 income sources, and 0 assets. But after focusing on growing my social media presence for 6 months, I: Grew my audience from ~0 followers to 11K on Medium, 10K on LinkedIn, 2.5K on Twitter, and subscribers on my Substack newsletter, with no prior experience in social media. Went viral four times on LinkedIn, Medium, and Facebook. Published articles in Business Insider and Yahoo Finance. Received invitations from several CEOs to speak at paid events. Cracked the LinkedIn algorithm - I managed to create a post about engineering that garnered over 1.2 million views and more than 4K likes. Cracked the Medium algorithm - my articles never received less than 1K claps, I have a 100% curation rate on Medium, and I've written only 6 articles. Regularly interact with other CEOs, major YouTubers, and notable personalities on Twitter and LinkedIn.
